How could we forget Abang Viva? The man who brought a boat on top of his Perodua Viva to assist the flood victims in a few states when the disaster hit, and won the hearts of many Malaysians.

Despite his tireless efforts, he has not planned to stop. Recently, Abang Viva completed his 3-day training in basic defence with the Malacca Civil Defense Department. Is Abang Viva training to be part of the Civil Defense officers?

‘I want to help more’

Abang Viva or his real name, Azwan Omar revealed that he joined the training so that he can help the flood victims in advance when he is involved in rescuing or charity works in the future.

Basic skills like cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and tying the knot are important during a rescue mission, according to Abang Viva. He believed that it will not only aid the victims greatly but will also come in handy for him when facing an agitating situation.

‘I used to run away when I saw anyone fainting. With the skills I’ve recently learned, I think I can help more (people),” he added.

He also said that he tagged along with the rescue mission for the very first time late last year when the flood struck Peninsular Malaysia without any prior knowledge or skills.

With the recent training, he admitted that he could see some improvements in himself.

‘I noticed my stamina has increased and I was taught to be more disciplined, something that I couldn’t have learnt anywhere else.’

The country, especially the flood victims will forever be indebted to Abang Viva as well as the people who volunteered to offer their helping hands during the flood crisis. Do you think he deserves more recognition than what he has now?
