As the festive season is approaching, people have started to plan their schedules ahead for balik kampung. As interstate travel was not allowed during the festive season over the past 2 years, some tickets to respective hometowns this year have sold out.

However, some of them had to cancel their trips back to their hometowns after seeing the hike in prices of the flight ticket. State Minister of Works of Sabah, Bung Moktar Radin took to his Facebook account yesterday (14 April) and slammed the airlines for setting unaffordable prices.

“A 1-way economy ticket back to Sabah costs about RM2,800. Some even reach up to RM3,600.”

In his post, Bung Moktar stated that he wants the Ministry of Transportation to look into the matter and resolve it immediately following the complaints from Sabahans who wish to return home.

“This incident should not have happened. To the airlines, stop gaining profit by sucking the rakyat’s blood,” he expressed.

Additionally, he mentioned the check-in method where visitors are required to do so through a machine and anyone who checks in through the counter will be charged RM100. He said “airlines should understand that in Sabah, a lot of people still do not have the luxury to own a smartphone. The uncles & aunties from rural areas still cannot grasp how to operate the check-in machine.”

At the end of his post, he sent a reminder to the airlines.

Fellow Sabahans, have you managed to purchase your tickets home or did you have to cancel your trip? As for the others, have you planned ahead for your balik kampung journey?
