We’re living in an era where there is no safe haven for mental illness and even the tiniest matter can trigger someone to act recklessly.

A 28-years old man in Shah Alam attempted to take his own life after his girlfriend did not answer his phone calls. He tried to jump off from the 18th floor of an apartment building in Bukit Jelutong early this morning (8 February).

The Head of Selangor’s Fire & Rescue Department, Norazam Khamis revealed that they received a distress call regarding the incident around 3:30am and reached the scene 5 minutes later. When the rescuers were there, the man was already standing on the rooftop of the apartment, which is on the 18th floor.

For safety precautions, they immediately installed an air cushion on the ground. Fortunately, the rescuers managed to convince and talk the man out of jumping. According to his sister and ex-wife, this isn’t his 1st attempt at suicide.

Previously, he tried to take away his life in the same way in Penang for family matters following a divorce. The rescue process took about 4 hours then.

In another incident, rescuers also managed to stop another attempted suicide this morning at a condominium in Ampang. This time, a 22-year-old woman tried to jump off the corridor of the apartment. She was rescued at 4:37am and was later handed to the police for further actions.

Cubaan Bunuh Diri Re

It’s sad to see that in just a span of a few hours, 2 different people attempted to end their lives. Life is undeniably never easy and it’s not always a walk in the park. Each and every one of us go through different trials and errors which will eventually shape us into better individuals.

If you’re in need of someone to talk to, always reach out to someone you trust. It’s always better than putting a full stop to your own life. In the meantime, do reach out to some of your friends from time to time as well to check on them. Some people might suffer in silence and no one knows it except themselves.
