Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim was recently interviewed by a local news station and the footage was broadcasted live on TV.

The interview was held at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman (TAR) where Comm Azmi visited the area to monitor the compliance of standard operating procedures (SOP) in the area.

One TikTok user took a video of the broadcast and questioned why Comm Azmi was not wearing a mask during the interview.

“Now it is Datuk who is not wearing a mask, he urges people to comply with SOP but where is his own mask? So he should be compounded,” the TikTok user said.

Comm Azmi has since addressed the issue in a statement to explain why he wasn’t wearing a mask during the interview that was conducted live for a television station’s news slot.

He said that he only took off his mask before the interview and put it back on when the interview was over and added that wearing the face mask might have distorted the message he wanted to convey as the area was noisy.

Here’s a short snippet of the interview:

Comm Azmi urged those with inquiries to call the KL police hotline at 03-21159999 or contact the nearest police station.
