After moping for a week over the alleged cancellation of the live-action movie Beauty and the Beast, Malaysians could finally rejoice when it was announced that the movie would be screened here without any cuts on Tuesday.

But as with every situation, there are always haters.

After news broke out, a few Islamists were enraged at the decision despite the Film Censorship Board’s (LPF) concern over several “gay moments”.

The activists pressed on the fact that the film may desensitise the public as the film is seen to be “part of a process to normalise LGBT”.

They also mentioned how the film may cause children to be involved in sexual crimes from the exposure to the scene.

Multiracial Reverted Muslims founder Firdaus Wong Wai Hung said on his Facebook page, “This is a normalisation process of something that is abnormal so society will be accustomed to a disease, until they feel that it is not a disease but an identity that must be accepted by society and with pride by its practitioners.”

“Isn’t it weird that LGBT, which the majority of the world’s religions do not agree with, but is promoted such so society will accept it, but polygamy that is accepted by the majority of world’s religions is opposed completely as if it is a crime?”

Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) vice-president Prof Dr Zainur Rashid Zainuddin, claimed that the decision was because the LPF is “conquered” by so-called liberals.

According to Chinese newspaper Sin Chew Daily, the LPF appeals committee had a five-hour long debate about allowing the movie to be screened uncensored here, and won with a narrow 9-8 vote.

Dr Nur Fatiha Kamarzaman, an activist with the women’s wing of Isma, said that the film’s “gay moments” are targeted at children and “systematically plotted to blunt norms and subconscious minds”.

“How can we stop paedophiles, assaults and thousands of perverts if at the same time we allow these foreign movies to groom our future generation?” she asked.

“There will be more Richard Huckles born and yet Malaysia acts as if they do not know about this paedophile,” she added, referring the British paedophile who was sentenced for abusing among others 23 Malaysian kids. If you say so!

The fate of the live-action classic was uncertain when Disney Malaysia refused LPF’s proposal to cut scenes involving a gay character.

LPF chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Abdul Hamid explained earlier that the board had proposed cuts of four minutes and 38 seconds of the “exclusively gay moment” from the live action remake.

Upon hearing such remarks, Malaysians couldn’t help but voice out against their ‘reasoning’.

“Please don’t tarnish our race. Jatuh muka je!” one commented.

Perhaps a simple solution will be choosing not to watch the movie if you want to avoid the alleged propaganda!
