ASEAN Skyline, a Facebook page that claims to “showcase the development and Beauty of ASEAN” has recently gotten attention with its post stating that the Mountain Kinabalu belongs to the Southern Philippines.

“Camping View at Mount Kinabalu, The tallest mountain in the Philippines. ?? Sabah, Southern Philippines,” the post says. It has gathered a total of 898 comments and 439 shares at the time of writing.

The first photo also shows the Philippines’ flag on the top of a hill. However, this is not the only post claiming that Sabah is in the Philippines. In another series of photos posted on 7 March, ASEAN Skyline’s caption writes, “Happy Sunday! From Tawau City, Sabah. Southern Philippines ??“.

Both the photos and caption are very much inaccurate, as Sabah is located in Malaysia.

Another post back in January also called Malaysia “The Land of COVID-19,” when Malaysia’s COVID-19 new cases hit a new high, which is 5,725 cases on 29 January 2021.

The act of slandering a country with false information is really disrespectful, especially when the page claims to “showcase the beauty” of ASEAN countries.
