A police officer’s job may be to arrest someone but it takes humanity to turn that person’s life around.

According to Harian Metro, a struggling mother of three was caught shoplifting food and KoolFever plasters in an attempt to cure her child’s fever.

But, instead of arresting her, Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal chose to help her by purchasing the items that she needed, as showcased on the Polis Daerah Petaling Jaya Facebook page.

They wrote, “Assistant Commissioner Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal was called to visit a housewife who had been detained by security personnel of a supermarket after she failed to pay for the items she had with her. The items in question included medicine and food for her sick child.”

“On the basis of compassion, the Petaling Jaya Police Headquarters and the social Welfare Department have donated food items and daily essentials to her, so that she can continue to be resilient in facing the challenges of living during the Covid-19 pandemic period. Regardless of whether it is tough or easy, we are still in this together.”

Apparently, Nik Ezanee was also heard encouraging the woman to visit the police station when she faces hardships.

He prompts the general public to stay at home so that the Covid-19 pandemic can be curbed quicker and more effectively and those who are suffering can once again find a livelihood for themselves. But, most importantly, he urges the community to help those in need.

“It takes so little to do just that, and yet few people utilise this world-changing ability. Just one good deed a day.”
