In today’s edition of weirdest legal cases…

We all have instances where our mother throws out stuff from our bedroom when cleaning it (because we’re all messy human beings), but a family in Ottawa, United States took it to another level. As reported by mlive, a son took his own parents to court for throwing out his valuable, er, NSFW collection and actually won!

David Werking, a 42 year-old man from the state’s city of Grand Haven sued his parents, Beth and Paul Werking after both disposed of his collection of porn. According to the legal case report, the collection included, “a trove of pornography and an array of sex toys.”

U.S. District Judge, Paul Maloney who preceeded over the case granted David’s request for summary judgment in his favour. That means that couple has to pay David a whopping USD25,000 or around RM101,000.

However, David’s attorney actually requested for the damages to be more than RM101,000 and requested an amount triple to that. This is because David’s stash is not your ordinary porn stash, as according to his attorney, it was “a collection of often irreplaceable items and property.”

If you’re wondering why is a 42-year-old man still living with his parents, it was because David stayed at his parents house for a while in 2016 after being recently divorced.

David’s parents and the email sent by his father.

He then moved to Indiana after the short stay at his parents’ house. While he was waiting for belongings from his parents’ house to be delivered to his new home, he realised that 12 boxes were missing. These boxes contained his ‘valuable belongings’.

When he asked his parents about the boxes, his father replied in an email saying, “Frankly David, I did you a big favour getting rid of all this stuff.”

Well, ultimately, his father did do David a favour because he’ll be getting RM101,000 or possibly more from him and his mother. What do you guys think of this case? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
