A pregnant woman in Singapore who was infected with Covid-19 in March is said to have given birth to her second son safely in November.

Even though the mother was infected with the virus, the baby is said to be free from the infection and what’s more surprising is the fact that baby had antibodies present in his system that was protecting him from the virus.

According to a report by Astro Awani, Celine Ng-Chan, 31, said her son’s paediatrician suspected that she might have transferred her antibodies to the baby.

Before that, Ng-Chan was treated for three weeks in the hospital when she was infected with Covid-19.

But it’s still unclear if the antibodies can be passed from the mother who has been infected with the virus or if the baby itself developed the antibodies himself.

Previously, the World Health Organization (WHO) said there is no evidence yet that pregnant women infected with Covid-19 can spread the virus to their babies during pregnancy or childbirth.

Till today, no active virus has been found in fluid samples near the baby in the womb or breast milk.

According to the October issue of the journal JAMA Pediatrics, it was reported that Covid-19 infections from mothers to newborns rarely happen.
