Let’s hope that this will be the beginning of the end for Covid-19!

In a joint press statement between the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and the Minsitry of Health (MOH) today, it was revealed that our country is expected to get supply of Covid-19 vaccine during the first quarter of next year. As reported by Bernama, MOH is currently in contact with 8 different vaccine research manufacturers which are currently in the third phase of clinical trial.

According to the statement, when received, the priority for the vaccine will be towards our front liners in the medical and safety sector. These include doctors, nurses, police, prison officers and immigration officers.

Furthermore, MOSTI and MOH also clarified that the government is currently at the final stages of completing a negotiation with COVAX, an international initiative headed by the World Health Organisation (WHO). This initiative was meant to ensure access to Covid-19 vaccine which currently has up to nine different candidates under the Global Alliance for Vaccine and Immunisation (GAVI).
