One SOP that we’re all used to at this point is getting our temperatures recorded before we enter any premise. The normal temperature is between 36.0-37.5 degree Celsius and if your temperature is any higher than that, you will not be allowed to enter the premise.

However, according to Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin in the Parliament session yesterday, while your temperature should be recorded, the information shouldn’t be stored. For example, when someone records your temperature, you’re not required to write it down alongside your name and phone number.

The minister said storing this information conflicts with the framework of handling procedures and storage of personal data set by the government. He added that based on formal guidelines only the name, telephone number, date and time of the visitor’s visit to the business premises should be recorded, either on a book or in digital storage.

“Personal data is only used for contact tracing while the visitor data storage period is only valid up to six months of Movement Control Order (MCO) and must be permanently deleted after nine months.”

The next time you’re visiting any premises, make sure you only fill up the necessary information. That being said, never forget to register with the MySejahtera app before entering any public places!
