We rarely glance at the clouds, not unless we see one that looks like something else.

But sometimes, the clouds demand attention that they very well deserve.

Omed (@OmedMuhamad666) took to his Twitter page to showcase rare mammatus clouds covering the skies in a Kurdish town in Iraq.

He wrote, “Today in Amedi.”

Clouds 1

As according to EarthSky, Mammatus clouds are usually a sign of a storm or severe weather.

The pouch-like protrusions hanging from the undersides of the clouds is composed primarily of ice, and can extend in any direction.

Clouds 2

These clouds can remain visible in the sky for short moments of 10 to 15 minutes at a time.

And contrary to myth, they do not continue to extend downwards to form tornadoes, but are still interesting in part because they’re formed by sinking air.

Mammatus clouds may look ominous, and for good reasons, but it definitely goes hand in hand with its magnificent beauty.

What do you think about this? Let us know in the comment section.
