Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, held a live telecast at 8pm tonight, in which he announced the extension of the MCO into its fourth phase from 28th April to 12th May.

Nonetheless, there were also a few important points that the PM addressed. If you couldn’t catch all of it, don’t worry-we’ve summarised all the important points for you down below:

  1. Students stuck in universities will be able to return to their hometowns soon. Over 100,000 students can reunite with their families, but PM urges parents to be patient as the relevant ministries will be strategising a plan to ensure they are home safe.
  2. Those who live in kampungs will have to apply online if they want to travel back to their hometowns.
  3. MCO might be extended past 12th May.
  4. Even though MCO might be extended, selected companies in approved services will be allowed to operate as long as they heed by the regulations specified that prioritises the safety of staff, social distancing and cleanliness in the workplace.
  5. Authorities MIGHT ease controls over regulations in multiple sectors, including social sectors.
  6. An economic plan (Pelan Pemulihan Ekonomi) will be organised by the Ministry of Finance and Prime Minister’s Department as a short term measure to boost economic activity within the country after the MCO is lifted.
  7. The initiatives being planned will be directed towards building capacity and skills of the people, promoting domestic spending, enhancing the resilience of industries including SMEs, and fostering a more positive investment environment for the future.
  8. The government will consider opening more sectors and sub-sectors but they will have to follow strict regulations to ensure that companies are still competitive and workers will be able to continue their jobs in a safe environment.
  9. Detailed guidelines and conditions will be given to investors and the corporate sector to start their respective companies’ operations.

Stay tuned for more updates!
