The Ministry of Education will not announce the reopening of schools hastily on 15th April, if the government chose to end the Movement Control Order (MCO) on 14 April.

According to the Malaysian Gazette, Deputy Minister of Education, Datuk Dr. Mah Hang Soon said, the safety of the students is the main priority of the ministry.

Therefore, schools will not be opened hastily to ensure the safety of the students. In order to reach this decision, Datuk Dr Mah stated that the ministry is actively discussing with the important stakeholders such as education societies and parents through online teleconferences.

According to him, most stakeholders agree that the safety of the students is more important than learning and examinations, reported Malaysian Gazette.

Some parties also suggested for the teachers to return to school and do online classes by using Internet and the existing teaching and learning tools said Dr Mah via Sinchew Daily.

Upon discussions, some parties have suggested that the school session should be postponed until June to curb the spread of Covid-19. Apart from that, some also suggested to only allow candidates who will be sitting for their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) to go to school.

Dr Mah stated that at the beginning of MCO, most people thought that UPSR and PT3 were very important.

“But, in line with the current development, some parents have changed their stance,” said Dr Mah, reported Malaysian Gazette.
