In a good example of giving back to the community, a petrol station in Shah Alam has taken the initiative to help out the people around, during the Movement Control Order (MCO).

According to the Malay Mail, this initiative started quite a while back on 27th March, during the first phase of MCO which begun on the 18th of March.

The petrol station located in Setia Alam started off the drive by offering 500g of pre-packed rice for free, according to a post in its Facebook named Petron Setia Alam.

“With difficult times upon us, we would like to assist those in need who have supported us all this time,” the statement said.

According to the post, the management were unsure on how this initiative will turn out but they assured that they will try their best to continue this effort. However, they could not promise that the pre-packed rice will always be available.

This initiative later expanded to include sardine tins alongside the packets of rice.

Now called the community table, the station has moved the contribution from the cashier’s counter to a table because the public generously came forward to donate more items.

The community table at the moment offers flour, salt, sugar, milk powder and cheesy sticks. One person can only grab one of each items to ensure that everyone has a fair share and access to the community table.

The Malay Mail reported that the station accepts non-perishables for those wanting to donate to the community table, while items in large quantities like rice and sugar, will be repackaged.

It’s great to see everyone playing their part in helping the community and having each other’s back during these tough times. Hopefully, we can overcome this critical period by continuing to exercise our social responsibility and adhering to the MCO.
