As we’re spending our days during the Movement Control Order, most Malaysians are doing a good job by abiding by the rule to #StayAtHome at all times to help break the chain of spreading the virus. However, there are times when we’re left with no choice but to head out and buy our daily necessities to survive seeing as to how most online grocery shops are already fully booked ’til mid-April.

If this sounds like you, make sure to read the tips below for pointers on how you can minimise contact as you shop safely during this MCO period:

1. If you REALLY need to go out, pick an off-peak time to shop

Mco Survival Guide: 6 Tips On How M’sians Can Minimise Contact With Others While Out Shopping - World Of Buzz 1

Though we are allowed to go out during the MCO, it’s only for necessary reasons ONLY. Buying your necessities is a valid reason, but that doesn’t mean we can take advantage of it! If everyone is out buying groceries every three days, it will pretty much defeat the purpose of the MCO. That is why it’s important for you to pick a non-peak time to shop so that the store isn’t too packed with people. We’d recommend going at mid-day, as that’s usually the hottest time of day so there are fewer people outside.

Remember, go out only when it’s absolutely necessary! And whatever you do, DO NOT break the curfew!

2. Plan out your shopping purchases to avoid panic buying

When you’re out buying groceries, make sure to prepare your to-buy list strategically so that you can properly plan your necessities for the next week or two. Not only will this help minimise the number of times you go out, but it will also save a lot of time so you can get in, shop and GO! Most importantly, this will help you to know what you absolutely need so that you can avoid panic buying.

Reminder: please also think of others and don’t overbuy!

For all you ‘ketua keluarga‘ out there, you might find yourself wandering the aisles in the supermarket wondering which is the right vegetable to buy…

3. Shop with a trolley instead of a basket

We know what you’re thinking: aren’t trolleys considered highly contaminated with germs? Technically, yes. But, hear us out on this! The reason why you should opt for a trolley is that it’s so big, other people have no choice but to keep their distance away from you. Many large supermarkets and hypermarkets have also started making it a point to sanitise their trolleys as well.

But of course, PLEASE make sure to bring antibacterial wipes with you so you can disinfect the trolleys yourself too, okay?

4. Use an e-wallet instead of cash or credit card

In case you didn’t know, money, credit cards and everything else in your wallet are highly contaminated with germs. It’s constantly being passed around from person to person before landing in our hands.
