The Ministry of Health has just detected a sporadic Covid-19 case in Malaysia yesterday. Sporadic means without contact with any infected people and without travel history to any infected countries!

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has said that this random and isolated case was detected from the 600 samples that the ministry has received. The samples were from people with influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infection (SARI).

Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said,

“Investigation is ongoing to identify the cause of this sporadic infection.”

When NST asked him whether Malaysia would need to upgrade its nationwide response mechanism to “Heightened Risk” for the outbreak, he said that they would need to investigate this case first before making any decisions.

Just yesterday (11th March), there have been 20 new cases of Covid-19 patients, making it a total of 149 cases nation-wide. As 124 of these cases were from close contact with an infected person, the ministry is working extra hard with contact tracing. Out of the 149 cases, 26 patients have recovered and were discharged.

The first case for Brunei was a man who had contracted the virus after going to a gathering at the Sri Petaling mosque which saw the attendance of 10,000 people, with 5,000 of them being Malaysians. The ministry has since advised the people who were there to get tested. They also urged the for mass gatherings to be postponed.

Oh no, we hope that the ministry will be able to take actions to curb the spread of Covid-19. However, if you experience any fever, tiredness, difficulty in breathing and dry cough, you should seek medical attention.
