Of the 107 Malaysians that were evacuated from Wuhan, two of them reportedly failed to pass the health screening as they started displaying symptoms of the virus upon arrival, said Deputy Prime Minister, Dato Seri Dr Wan Azizah.

Despite the fact that all Malaysian citizens passed the Chinese quarantine inspection procedures before boarding, the infected two were immediately taken to Kuala Lumpur General Hospital for treatment and isolation when they landed in KLIA, added the minister in a statement recorded by Sin Chew Daily.

As for the other Malaysians passengers and flight crew that passed the health check, they will still be subjected to a quarantine period of 14 days at a designated quarantine center to ensure that they are free from the virus before getting cleared to return to their respective homes.

At approximately 5:57 am this morning (4th February), AirAsia flight AK8264 brought back over 133 Malaysians home from the centre of the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan.

According to the Star, the 133 passengers on board the aircraft included 107 Malaysian citizens that were trapped during the Wuhan lockdown, 12 crew members, 8 humanitarian assistance and disaster relief personnel, as well as 6 officers from the Malaysian embassy in Beijing.

The aircraft was initially designated to take “141 citizens but only 107 of them actually appeared at the airport to return home.” The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that those who couldn’t make it were unable to travel because they were outside Wuhan, encountered traffic problems, and experienced difficulty in finding transport from where they were to Wuhan or Tianhe International Airport, where the flight was scheduled to depart.

While we should all remain cautious, let’s hope and pray that those tests come back negative.
