A Malaysian’s biggest concerns when it comes to buying and eating food from open-air roadside stalls, kiosks and food trucks have always been hygiene.

There are also many factors when it comes to hygiene, such as the cleanliness of the space and food handler when the food was prepared, the cleanliness of the food display space, the dust from the road and vehicles driving by and of course, considering it’s Malaysia, cockroaches.

One lady took her fear of cockroaches affecting her food too far as she was caught on camera spraying bug repellent on her food, as shared by the We are Malaysians Facebook page.

Netizens have pointed out that the aerosol spray can in her hand is in fact FUMAKILLA bug repellent.

But that’s not the only thing netizens had to say.

This netizen asked, “Isn’t it dangerous for the food to be eaten after that?”

This comment goes, “Sister, if you alone die, that’s okay. Don’t cause trouble, it’ll be your fault if many die.”

Some netizens also pointed out that she’s spraying the bug repellent in between display shelves and not into the shelves itself, but other pointed out that her use of such chemical sprays around food is wrong in general and the chemicals can nonetheless still contaminate the food.

And why would she even need the spray in the first place?

That probably means that there are cockroaches running around her food display shelves.

We are Malaysians’ posting has since garnered over 285 shares.

We hope that the authorities take the necessary action to ensure that no one gets sick or even worse, dies from such careless contamination.
