Punishments are pretty routine when it comes down to being a student in school. After all, teachers need to enforce a way to ensure that students stay in line and behave. But sometimes, some punishments really tak masuk akal.

In a story reported by Sin Chew Daily, a boy was punished for not doing his math’s homework by being stapled on the ear by his teacher. Woah, wait what?

Yup, that’s right. As punishment for not completing his maths homework, a teacher in Kota Kinabalu thought it would be an appropriate punishment to staple the earlobe of a standard four student. Understandably, his parents who found out about the incident lodged a police report immediately.

According to the story, the case is presently being investigated under article 324 of the Penal Code (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means). Education Minister Dr. Maszlee bin Malik has said that he is currently awaiting for the investigation report from the Sabah State Education Bureau.

Sabah State Education and Innovation Minister YB Datuk Dr Yusof B. Yacob has also said he hasn’t received a detailed report on the incident, but strongly believes that the use of staplers in this incident is unacceptable. He adds that the methods of punishment used may affect the psychological development of children.

We agree that this punishment definitely went far out of line! We hope that the boy will heal from his injuries soon, and that a proper investigation will be conducted on the matter.
