According to Besut district police chief Mohd Zamri Mohd Rowi, while Syafiq was playing with the firecrackers, it exploded in his hand, thus injuring his right wrist as well as destroying all his fingers.

The boy’s mother, 40-year-old Zainab Mohd, was inside the house when she suddenly heard an explosion and her son’s screams from outside the house.

“Her cousin came and informed her of the accident which befell her son,” Zamri said, adding that this is the first time that such mishap involving firecrackers has happened in the district during Ramadan.
