With the recent spate of daylight robberies like the ones in Puchong and Batu Caves putting us all on edge, this newest case certainly won’t do anything to calm our nerves. A family residing in Johor was just robbed of RM300,000 in cash and valuables combined, by four men armed with pistols.

At 2.30pm yesterday (March 27), four men rode into a neighbourhood in the suburbs of Tampoi, Johor on three motorcycles, and forced their way into a house there. According to Malay Mail, one of the robbers fired six shots from an automatic pistol, and together they threatened the family members living there to give up their cash and valuables.

All in all, Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said the suspects got away with SGD43,000 (approx. RM129,000), RM104,000 and over RM100,000 worth of jewellery from a safe box. That’s a lot of money to be kept under one roof!

Worse still, it appears to be a premeditated crime, as the robbers were quick on their feet and executed the robbery in just under 10 minutes. On the bright side, none of the family members were hurt, and no casualties have been reported. Police have classified the case as armed robbery, but will continue to investigate the case for other possibilities. Mohd Khalil added that a police forensics team were deployed to the scene as well, where they matched the bullet shells to a 9mm calibre pistol.

Although it is unknown if they are linked, high-profile daylight robberies are seemingly on the rise this year, with the previous cases in Puchong and Batu Caves’ residential homes occurring just weeks before this most recent incident. Please stay safe everyone, and do your best to minimise the storing of valuables and high amounts of cash at home!
