Responding to this viral issue, Agensi Pengangkutan Awam Darat (APAD) has released an official statement on their Facebook page a day after (27 February) confirming that this incident happened at the APAD office in Kelana Jaya.

Here’s what the statement read.

“The investigation revealed that the person had come to the Kelana Jaya APAD office on 26 February 2019 at 2.30pm to submit his documents but couldn’t proceed because the queue ticket machine closed at 2pm when the maximum daily limit is reached.

“The person was requested to come again at an earlier time by the officer on duty at the counter. He scolded the officer out of dissatisfaction and claimed that he had waited for four hours. Further investigation showed that the person did not wait as long as he had claimed in the video.”

According to the statement, it was understood that the office in Kelana Jaya has experienced a massive spike in terms of customer traffic following the closure of a few Urban Transformation Centres (UTC). The lack of workers and counters had also made it more difficult to handle the crowd.

The agency also urged members of the public to come earlier to ensure a smoother experience. Having said that, they assured everyone that they are taking this issue seriously and will take steps to prevent it from happening again.

After reading this statement, some netizens blamed the closure of several UTCs while others pointed out that the daily limit should be increased to handle the crowd. Also, some reckoned that the man shouldn’t have taken it out on the officer.
