Uh-oh, it looks like PayPal won’t have an operation centre here anymore!

According to The Malay Mail, the online payment company has decided to close down its operations centre in Malaysia in April 2019. The centre’s shutdown is in efforts to change PayPal’s business model in order to increase efficiency.

Nevertheless, this shutdown will not affect PayPal’s customers because as clearly mentioned in their statement, their Malaysian customers can still continue to use their products and services as usual. Thank goodness!

Their statement reads,

“We have made the difficult decision to close PayPal’s Operations Centre in Malaysia by the end of this year. The work currently being delivered at our Operations Centre in Malaysia will gradually move to other locations. This internal reorganisation does not affect our customers in Malaysia, who can continue to use our products and services as normal.”

Having said that, all employees of PayPal will definitely be affected by this shutdown but they will not be left stranded without a job.

This is because the company has taken the initiative to start a voluntary separation scheme (VSS) starting from April to August 2019 to help their workers find new jobs. That’s a good plan.

The employees will be given various training to increase their chances of landing a new job. They further wrote in their statement,

“Our priority now is to do everything we can to set up our employees for future success and we are fully committed to helping them as they transition to the next step in their careers. As well as offering comprehensive separation packages, we have built an on-site careers centre to promote job opportunities and provide immediate assistance to employees.”

It’s definitely sad to see PayPal close down their operations centre in Malaysia but we are also glad that we can still use their services and that their employees will be taken care off after the shutdown. Good move, PayPal!
