If you’re a civil servant in Malaysia, you may want to pay extra attention to this article because our Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng has announced that the special payment for public servants will be given out today (18 December 2018). YAS!

According to The Star, the special payment of RM500 will be beneficial for 1.4 million civil servants who work under the Federal Government, including permanent and contract staff.

Lim Guan Eng was quoted as saying,

“The government decided to make the payment before the end of the year to assist parents in the civil service in making preparations for their children’s schooling needs for the new year.”

Besides that, Lim noted that the government will also make special payments of RM250 to about 800,000 pensioners. This payment is made in efforts to appreciate and recognise their services as civil servants.

If you didn’t know, the finance minister announced these special payments – RM500 for civil servants in Grade 54 and below and RM250 for government pensioners – in the tabling of Budget 2019 on 2 November 2018.

Previously, Lim said the special payments which amounted to RM1 billion couldn’t be allocated in the 2018 Budget but now it’s made possible by the Pakatan Harapan government through savings by “implementing a clean and Efficient, Accountable and Transparent (CAT) administration”. Amazing!

We hope that these special payments will benefit the receivers as they prep for the new year.

If you have any friends or family members who are civil servants, don’t forget to share this good news with them!
