Looks like a study done by the World Health Organisation (WHO) has found out the real cause as to why people are at a higher risk to be infected with various diseases!

More than 1.4 billion adults are putting themselves at heightened risk of deadly diseases by not getting enough exercise, doctors are warning. Gotta work it and start living healthier, guys.

Due to global activity levels and an increasing level of comfortability towards a sedantary lifestyle, the study done by WHO has found a third of women and a quarter of men worldwide being at risk for killer conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer which can be avoided if they include exercise in their daily lifestyle.

Did you know that insufficient physical activity is a leading risk factor for non-communicable diseases, and has a negative effect on mental health and quality of life?

Through the study, researchers found out that adults should do at least 150 minutes of  “moderate-intensity” exercise such as brisk walking, swimming or gentle cycling every week, or spare about 75 minutes to do “vigorous-intensity” activity such as running or team sports.

The study has tracked the activity levels of 1.9 million people in 168 countries across the world since 2016.

Researchers found there had been no improvement in physical activity levels since 2001, despite numerous public health initiatives extolling the benefits of exercise.

More than a quarter of the world’s adults (1.4 billion people) were insufficiently active, according to the data. Oh my gosh, is this even happening?

“As countries urbanise, people who used to be, say, farmers, and got a lot of physical activity through their work all of a sudden live in an urban environment where they might be without work or move to a sedentary job, so societies need to compensate,” said WHO’s Regina Guthold, lead study author.

One of the main reasons as to why this has happened is due to technological advancements. All hail technology but looks like we’re also paying a price for it.

On a brighter note, the global exercise map for southeast Asia recognised that women were equally as active as men!

Anyway, make sure you get those workouts in! Also, remember to tell your lazy friends the same!
