If you are a foreigner planning to drive into Malaysia then please be a good and polite driver!

That’s because our Transport Minister, Anthony Loke has said that if these foreign cars broke the law while in Malaysia, they would not be allowed to leave the country until they paid the summonses.

According to Malaysiakini, Loke said that he wants to make sure that foreigners who drive their cars into Malaysia will obey the traffic laws here. You may have seen some of them going wild on the roads, thinking that they are above the law!

That’s why he said that they will be implementing a new Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) that will be issued to foreign vehicles when they want to enter Malaysia’s borders starting from this year. After that, Loke will start to implement the summons under VEP and bar foreign vehicles who have unpaid summonses from exiting Malaysia.

He told Malay Mail, “Foreign vehicles coming into the country will have to register a VEP. If these foreign drivers commit a traffic offence, they cannot leave the country until they have settled their summons. However, we will need time to implement this.”

Currently, he plans on starting the VEP first and the first phase of this would be carried out at the Malaysia-Singapore border this year. Other borders such as Thailand would fall into the second phase.

Well, foreign drivers, you heard the man! Be a good driver!
