8yo Sarawakian Will Represent M’sia at World Championship of Performing Arts 2024 After National Triumph!

8-year-old Sarawakian Dion Das Louis dazzled the crowd and won the judges’ votes at the Grand Final Malaysian Championship of Performing Arts 2024 at Panggung Bandaraya, Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (27 January).

Dion won the Junior Dance category after outscoring 5 other contestants with a contemporary take on the traditional Iban dance Ngajat with the theme of “The Little Bornean Birdie” inspired by sparrows and hornbills.

In a press release by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS),  the triumph also meant that Dion will be representing Malaysia at the World Championship of Performing Arts 2024 taking place in Long Beach, California in the USA from 28 June to 6 July 2024.

Moreover, Dion also took home a gold medal and an RM3,000 scholarship for winning the Junior Dance category of the national competition.

Dion’s performance and triumph at the national competition were also shared on social media by Gary Lauder, a renowned make-up artist from Sarawak who assisted with Dion’s make-up and costume for the competition.

 

 

In a Facebook post, Gary shared that the Grand Final Malaysian Championship of Performing Arts 2024 was actually the 8-year-old’s second time winning the competition.
