A parent’s worst nightmare is seeing their child sick and being unable to do anything about it.
That’s what Muhamad Danial’s parents are going through seeing their usually chirpy eight-year-old son become a silent shell of his former self after being diagnosed with stage-four brain cancer in July 2020.
Danial just spends his days indoors now resting instead of playing with his friends as he’s weak from his treatments.
Danial’s mother, Azlina Abdul Aziz, 29, told Sinar Harian her son’s diagnosis was confirmed after undergoing surgery to remove liquid from his brain at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB), Alor Setar.
“Before that, he was also vomitting which is when my husband and I brought him to Hospital Jitra for treatment. However, the doctor just said he’s having gastric.”
When his situation deteriorated, his parents brought him to Klinik Kesihatan Tunjang and he was subsequently referred to HSB where his diagnosis was confirmed. Danial is scheduled to undergo chemotherapy eight times starting 30 November at Hospital Pulau Pinang and is set to end on June 2021.
Kedah State Human Development, Rural Development Exco, Poverty Eradication Datuk Siti Aisyah Ghazali visited Danial’s family with some monetary help and special school aid from Yayasan Pelajaran Mara (YPM).
Azlina said in worry of how she’s going to afford her son’s treatment as her husband, Mohamad Nasri, is working as an assistant at a bakery earning only RM1,200 monthly of which at times he doesn’t even get the full amount as he has to take care of Danial’s brother when Azlina’s busy.
