8 Nostalgic Things All Malaysian Millennials Confirm Used To Do As Kids - World Of Buzz 17

A person’s childhood is one of the most memorable milestones in their life, so here’s a little throwback to all the things us Malaysians used to do as kids. If you’re a millennial and growing, you are sure to have done at least half of these things when you were younger (and who knows, maybe even now!).

1. Challenging your friends to a game of batu seremban

We even came up with our own gaya tricks to get extra points in order to win.

2. Celebrating our birthday at a fast food restaurant

We have all celebrated our birthdays at least once at a McDonald’s, KFC, or A&W! If you hadn’t, I’m sure you at least attended a birthday at such an establishment before. Birthdays would always be the most exciting time of our young lives (whether it was ours or not!).

3. Going out at night in our pyjamas

Because let’s face it, you felt like the coolest kid in the pasar malam in those Ultraman pyjama pants and matching top.

Of course, that isn’t to say we don’t still do this. Even celebrities are wearing their sleepwear out in public.

4. Pretending to fall asleep in the car so we’d get carried back into our beds

After a night out with the parents, we’d “accidentally” fall asleep so we don’t have to walk from the car to the house… because our beloved daddy or mommy would carry us, mah!

5. Going “oh-oh-tah-tah-yoh!” when our friend did something bad

For a sentence that made no sense whatsoever, it was the most condescending and threatening thing for a kid to hear. Wanna take it to the next level? Add the dreaded finger wag.

6. Making rubber band guns

Equipped with nothing but our fingers, a rubber band and precision, you can say that this was one of the deadliest weapons we had as a kid. Face, arms, legs, family jewels; everything was a potential target!

7. Collecting erasers and having eraser wars

The best erasers weren’t the fancy ones either. The real MVPs are the ones with the country flags printed on them that you can get from the bookshop for 20 to 50 cents. They had the perfect weight and flip to makan your opponents’ eraser!

8. Simply ‘hentam’ the buttons on the controller when we played fighting games

The more buttons we press in succession, the more our character fights. Makes sense right? Whether it was the old school arcade machine or the game console we had at home, we only had one goal in mind: WIN. Who had time to remember the button combinations for combos and special attacks anyways?

We all agree the best part of our childhood was getting to stay in and play the games on our PlayStation or GameBoy or whatever other gaming devices we had. Being allowed to take a break from homework and chores, and just having fun with our games was the most exciting thing ever. Fast forward a few years later and now, with the availability of smartphones, we’re still able to do all that and more! If you were (or are) a fan of these games, we have great news for you!

Based on the animation series, Ejen Ali, the game Ejen Ali: Emergency is an isometric action puzzle mobile game developed by Media Prima Digital.
