A Singaporean boy died after the vehicle he was travelling in with his family was hit by a lorry that skidded into the opposite lane at about 10:34pm on Sunday (March 16) at Permas Jaya, Johor Bahru.
In a statement, the Johor Bahru Selatan District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat, shared that the deceased victim was a 7-year-old boy while the others in the vehicle, which include his parents, his younger sibling and an Indonesian maid, sustained injuries.

“The accident is believed to have occurred when a lorry driven by a 57-year-old man, from the direction of Masai heading to the city centre, skidded into the opposite lane before hitting the vehicle driven by the victim’s family,”
“As a result of the accident, the deceased victim was thrown out of the vehicle before he was reported dead while receiving emergency treatment at a private hospital at 3am this morning (March 17),” he said.
Some of the other victims are still receiving treatment at the Sultan Ismail Hospital; others suffered minor injuries and were allowed to be discharged.
The lorry driver did not have a license
The lorry driver was arrested following the accident, and a urine test found that he was positive for methamphetamine.

Additionally, he did not possess a driver’s license, GDL (Goods Driving License), or PSV (Public Service Vehicle) vocational licences.
