Admit it, we all live that double-life growing up. In front of our parents, we emit some angelic heavenly glow. When they’re not around though, we release our inner taiko! Ahh, good old days 🙂

That is if you never kena kantoi of course! Let’s go down memory lane and look at some of these naughty things we did that we confirm would be pretty embarrassed thinking about today.

1. Skipping tuition to go to the Cybercafe

Remember the time when you played games on the PC, instead of on a tiny phone? Ahh, the good old days! We were so into games like Counter-Strike and Dota back then that we skipped tuition just to go to the Cybercafe to play. Meanwhile, those who weren’t into games went to the Cybercafe just to download and watch their favourite movies and TV shows.

Nowadays we don’t have to resort to Cybercafes any more to do so as you can just stream and watch your favourite shows right on your phone with awesome Apps such as Astro GO. Oh, how times have changed (For the better!).

Thankfully most of us never kantoi, if not confirm we’ll be greeted with the big rotan by our parents!

2. Ponteng sekolah to lepak at the mall

Speaking of skipping classes, of course, we naughty bunch also skipped school too. Just to do absolutely nothing at the mall. Why exactly do we find lepak-ing at the mall so cool to the point of skipping important lessons in school? It still dumbfounds us to this day.

Well, we say that, but we still go to the mall practically every chance we get today. So, I guess, no lessons were learned?

3. Tiru your friends’ answers in school exams

As Asians, we must live up to our parents’ expectations otherwise we will get disowned man! So, once in a while, we’d try to sneak a little help from cheat sheets or by peeking over to the next table.

4. ‘Borrowing’ our parents’ motorcycle/car to go lepak with friends

Growing up, anywhere we wanna go confirm have to ask our parents to chauffeur us, even if we want to go hang out watching football with friends. Potong stim you know! That’s why some of us dared to do the unthinkable and secretly ‘borrowed’ our parents’ motorcycle or car when they are not around.

You’ve gotta understand though, back then, we can’t easily stream all the football matches on Astro to our phones like you lots today so we have to go to the mamak and watch with friends. Admittedly though, this was pretty stupid as if kantoi, we wouldn’t just face punishment from our parents, but also from the authorities weh!

Oh, what were we thinking back then?

5. Using your parents’ phone to text your boyfriend/girlfriend

Admit it, everyone experienced ‘cinta monyet’ during their school days. From leaving love letters under your crush’s desk to walking back home from school together, we were super jiwang! Of course, after school hours were where the romance flourished. From setting up rendezvous at the local mall to late-night phone call sessions, nothing can contain your love anymore!

Well, except for the fact that you don’t have a mobile phone and you have no way to contact the love of your (school) life. Hence the desperate measure of using your parents’ phone to text your love:

“I miss you, this is my mum’s phone don’t reply”

Awww, so sweet! 😛

So the class had to buy an exercise book and your parents gave you the money accordingly. At the same time, however, the latest chapter of your favourite manga just got released.

Of course, you bought Naruto over the exercise book lah…

7. Secretly watching TV late at night to see our favourite channels on Astro

Okay, this one actually still happens to this day because our parents always have control of the Astro remote! Whenever we want to watch our favourite channel and TV series, it seems that they’re always in front of the TV right?

Even when they’re not, we have to fight with our siblings for control of the remote and unless we’re the eldest, we’re always bound to lose weh! So as a last resort to not miss our favourite shows, we purposely stayed up late at night just to get some alone time with the Astro decoder.
