Since a very adorable Gudetama restaurant opened last week in Hong Kong, we can’t help but wonder what themed cafes are there worth checking out in Klang Valley.
We went to digging and so here are some we think everyone should at least check out!
1. Hello Kitty Gourmet Cafe
Only recently opened last month, the Hello Kitty Gourmet Cafe is infused with a ‘Hello Kitty goes to Paris’ theme. The interior decorations include Eiffel Towers and picture of Hello Kitty walking along the streets of Paris. It goes without saying that the food are all of Hello Kitty concepts; bow-tie shape pasta, Hello Kitty embedded cuts in many of their dishes and many more.
Location: Lot OB 3.F.6, Oasis Boulevard, Ground Floor, Sunway Pyramid, Bandar Sunway
Operating Hours: Mon to Fri 10.00am-11.00pm; Sat to Sun 10.00am to 1.00am
2. Ahoy

As its name would imply, Ahoy is a sailing or boating theme cafe. From a whale book case, boat seats, life buoys and an amazing large sea map on one of its wall, the whole cafe’s nautical theme brings a certain vintage vibe to any patrons that set sail into the place.
Location: 74 Jalan SS15/4, SS15, 47500 Selangor Subang Jaya
Operating Hours: Mon-Sun 11.00am-12.00am
3. DC Comics Super Heroes Cafe

The famous DC brand has a cafe in Malaysia and anyone who dines here would do justice for their hungry tummies. DC’s well-known superheroes Batman and Superman are the icons of the DC world and so are they for the cafe with each of their logos sprawled across coffee foams, burgers and sandwich buns.
The cafe is full-on out with their theme as cool arts decorate the store and menu. It’s seriously pretty cool.
Location: Unit 2-29, 2nd Floor, Sunway Putra Mall, 50350 KL
4. V1 Concept Bar and Restaurant
The concept of V1 is all about sports cars where this restaurant is the first sports car themed restaurant in KL. If you’re into cars, then this place is for you. The place is decorated with race car sears, racing strips and there are even sport cars actually parked outside. This spot is bound to give you that boost you need to end the day.
Location: No. 66 & 68, Jln Puteri 2/4, 47100 Puchong.
Operating Hours: Mon to Sun 12.00pm-12.00am
5. Yellow Brick Road

Yellow Brick Road is a Wizard of Oz inspired cafe. If you didn’t know, YBR is the path where Dorothy befriended her companions. Although there aren’t too much ‘Wizard of Oz’ gimmicks, the cafe incorporated a whimsical feel with a winding path of ‘yellow bricks’ topped off with yellow chrysanthemums placed each table which gives just enough vibe to remind you of the children’s story.
We also love how the cafe cleverly has a Wicked Pancake Parlour upstairs that matches their Wizard of Oz concept. Yes, both stores are owned by the same owners.
Location: 8-7, Jalan Batai, 50490 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Operating Hours: Sun to Thu 9.00am-5.00pm; Fri to Sat 9.00am-10.00pm
6. Chemistry Cafe + Lab

You can expect staff in lab coats and drinks served in volumetric flasks while their white and brown sugar are kept in syringes. The cafe has cool science apparatus such as retort stands, test tubes and cylinders placed around to give you the laboratory feel. *shudders* Reminds me of my highschool chemistry days.
Their witty tagline is “The Science of Socializing” and we totally approve the message. Hey, for all you know, you might spark new chemistry there.
Location: 26, Jalan Kristal J7/J, Seksyen 7, 40000 Shah Alam, Selangor
Operating Hours: Mon to Thu 12:00 pm-1:00 am; Fri 3:00 pm-1:00 am; Sat-Sun 10:00 am-2:00 am
