A Malaysian woman was arrested yesterday (31 December 2025) after causing a disturbance and acting aggressively by cursing and making obscene gestures at Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) officers in Kota Setar, Kedah.

According to a report by Berita Harian, Kota Setar District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Syed Basri Syed Ali stated that the Kota Setar District Control Centre (DCC) received a call from the public at approximately 1:11 PM and was provided information regarding the woman, believed to be mentally ill, who had punched an individual at a company in Mergong.

A 34-year-old woman seen in a viral video causing disturbance in Kota Setar has been arrested

Upon receiving the information, the Kota Setar DCC dispatched 2 police personnel to the scene.  However, they ended up on the receiving end of the woman’s aggression.

“Upon arrival at the location, the police officers found the suspect, a 34-year-old local woman, creating a scene and disturbing public order. The police officers then identified themselves and tried to defuse the situation by persuading the woman to calm down and cooperate,” stated Syed Basri.

“However, the suspect suddenly acted aggressively and provocatively by raising her voice, swearing, and making obscene gestures by showing the middle finger at one of the officers,” he added.

The woman allegedly also threw her MyKad at one of the officers, spat at them twice, and spat at others who were at the scene.

“In the same incident, the suspect also uttered insulting words against Islam. The incident was recorded by members of the public, and the footage later went viral on the TikTok social media platform,” the Kota Setar District Police Chief stated.

Syed Basri revealed that the suspect was arrested yesterday at 2:30 PM and the police will apply for a remand order to assist in the investigation at the Alor Setar Magistrate’s Court today (1 January 2026).

This case is being investigated under:

  • Section 353 of the Penal Code for the offence of using criminal force to prevent a public servant from carrying out their duties
  • Section 298 of the Penal Code for intentionally uttering words that could anger or offend the feelings of followers of any religion
  • Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting the honour of a person through indecent words or gestures
