For those of us who love kids, we find joy in playing with them and having fun with them, and most of the time, we try to be entertaining in order to make them laugh, including giving them piggy back rides or gently throwing them in the air.

However, being bigger and stronger than them, some of us may not realise the amount of force we use when we throw them up, which could result in serious injuries, or even death.

That’s exactly what happened to a two-year-old girl who tragically died when she hit her head on a ceiling fan.

Her 25-year-old cousin, a Myanmarese man, threw her into the air so hard that she came into contact with the fan on the ceiling, inflicting severe injuries to her head, reported NST.

She was immediately taken to Ampang Hospital for treatment on Sunday (16th June), but it proved unsuccessful as she died the next day.

According to Ampang Jaya district police chief Asst Comm Noor Azmi Yusoff, the tragedy occurred at around 10pm on Sunday at the family’s double-storey terrace house in Tasik Tambahan, Ampang.

The cousin was playing together with the girl, who was crying, after which he threw her up in the air.

“After the incident, the victim’s mother and her uncle took her to the Ampang Hospital for treatment,” Noor Azmi Yusoff said.

“The victim was pronounced dead at 10.57pm the following day by the hospital and her remains were sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for post-mortem.”

According to post-mortem results, the girl died due to blunt force trauma to her head, reported The Star.

Her father has since lodged a police report leading to the cousin’s detention at the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters at 1.15pm yesterday.

“The police also investigated the house, located along Tasik Tambahan Ampang,” said Noor Azmi Yusof in a statement Wednesday (19th June).

“The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 and the suspect is remanded for seven days beginning today until next Tuesday (25th June).”

RIP little girl! Always remember to be careful when playing with kids! Always ensure that there are no harmful objects around that could potentially hurt the kid and always be gentle when you play with them.
