26yo Lady Smears Period Blood On Her Face to Prove That It’s Not Gross

A woman’s menstrual cycle has always been a taboo because it’s often regarded as gross and dirty. Therefore, to raise awareness about periods, this topic has been included in Science subjects and sex education.

Nonetheless, even after all that effort and more, menstrual cycles still remain a taboo topic all over the world. Thus, one woman has decided to challenge the stigma on period blood but we’re afraid that she may have taken it a little too far.

HuffPost reported that Demetra Nyx decided to smear her period blood all over her face every month because she wants to remove the stigma against it. Well, at least she has good intention behind this crazy method.

The 26-year-old sex coach was quoted as saying,

“If I take something many people find disgusting and I touch it and play with it and smear it all over my face, then maybe some little girl, somewhere, will see the blood between her legs and think, ‘Well if Demetra puts it on her face, maybe this isn’t that gross after all’.”

I will do this every month until people are no longer shocked by it. ? I will do it until little girls stop being taught that the natural functions of their bodies are disgusting and unclean. I will do it until women stop feeling like they can’t have sex on their period because it is gross. I will do it until we stop being embarrassed that we sometimes bleed through our clothing. Through your sheets. The idea isn’t to get everyone to put blood on their face (though – wow – does it make your skin glow!) Rather… if I do something soooo shockingly disgusting and put it out in public… maybe someone somewhere will feel like: “well, if she can do *that*, maybe I don’t have to hate my period after all. Maybe my body isn’t that gross after all.” . Also, it’s fun and I like it ??‍♀️ . #mybodymychoice #menstruation #witchesofinstagram #blood #witch #fuckyourstandards

Speaking to HuffPost, Demetra said that reclaiming her period blood is empowering and rewarding. She believes that by putting menstrual blood all over her face, she is appreciating her body in its natural form. Demetra explained,

“When we claim something that has historically been seen as dirty and disgusting as clean and beautiful, we take back the power over our own bodies.”

“We’ve been raised in a society that tells us our bodies are not acceptable exactly as they are – which is, even more, the case for people of colour.”

“Our blood, in particular, is shamed, taxed and hidden. By putting my blood on my face, I am saying that I adore my body in all of its expressions and in its natural form.”

Do you agree with her?

Just a reminder that some days are so painful that all you do is cry and lie in bed but then some days you can cover yourself in blood and dance around the house and are about to launch your podcast and have moved to Southern California where it almost never rains and are making thousands of dollars talking to people about topics that freak most of humanity out and LIFE IS SO GREAT! (That is my reminder to myself. My reminder to you is that you can be whoever you want. And the people who love you will find you always. And the people who don’t will leave. And you can say bye forever because it is way more fun being true to yourself!!!)

Demetra explained that she started doing this as a fun way to “connect with her body”. However, she ended up being empowered by it after the first time she put menstrual blood all over her face. In fact, Demetra claims that period blood is great for her skin and that it “makes an awesome face mask”.

Finally, she advised girls who are going through their first period to embrace their period. She said that bleeding during your menstrual cycle is a beautiful and magical thing. Demetra also shared that we (women) should listen to our bodies more. True that!

This is certainly a bizarre way to raise awareness about menstrual cycles and we have to admit, it’s a little crazy! What do you think of Demetra’s method of raising awareness about periods? Let us know in the comments below!
