A woman was apprehended by the police for putting up an indecent plate number on a BMW sedan

According to the Indonesian publication Merdeka, the woman was stopped by local traffic police while driving the car on Jalan Soekarno-Hatta in Malang City on Friday (14 February).
Initial investigation by the police found that the BMW sedan’s actual plate number is ‘N 1688 ABG’ but was changed to ‘N 3 NEN’ for the sake of creating content on social media.

For context, Nenen is considered an indecent word in both Bahasa Indonesia and Bahasa Melayu, as it means breastfeeding.
It was also revealed that the BMW sedan belonged to the woman’s friend, but it was the woman’s idea to put the plate number and drive the vehicle with the altered registration plate.
The woman has since issued an apology, saying,
“This plate is indecent. I apologise and admit to my offence. I won’t do this again. I’m sorry.”

The woman was fined RM137 and told to revert to the original plate number immediately
The local police issued a fine of IDR500,000 or RM137 for the offence and told the woman to immediately change the plate number back to its original.
Moreover, the Indonesian police further warned road users in the country not to alter plate numbers to something obscene or indecent as it could affect the concentration of other road users.
