Kelantan police revealed alarming rape cases mentioning that it’s becoming a trend where young girls seek out boys for intimate relations.

This came to light when all the reported cases involved girls who turned out to be pregnant, and their families along with the Health Ministry (KKM) ended up lodging reports, as reported by Sinar Harian.

Some of the girls were as young as 10 years old

Kelantan Police Chief, Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, said that 252 cases were reported in 2024, compared to 206 cases in 2023, marking an increase of 22.3%, according to BERNAMA. The girls involved were as young as 10 years old, while the boys were around 11.

“Some were already 7 months pregnant, others just 1 month. What worries us is this emerging trend where underage girls are seeking out boys,” he said.

He added that what’s even more concerning is that many rape cases in Kelantan also involve incest.

According to him, one recorded case involved a 13-year-old girl who became pregnant by her uncle, who is in his 20s.

All the reported rape cases were consensual

Mohd Yusoff also mentioned that these underage individuals reportedly asked for the illegal relationships to happen, and not vice versa.

“In another case, an 11-year-old reportedly impregnated his 15-year-old cousin. During our investigations, we found pornographic videos and images on their phones,” he said.

He stressed that this issue should not be taken lightly, as all the reported rape cases were consensual, not forced.

He also pointed out that, according to their findings, apart from phone influence, things like lack of religious guidance, peer pressure, and drug abuse also play a part in rape cases (with about 30% of them involving drugs).
