Nannies are meant to watch over the children they are hired to take care of, and ensure that nothing bad befalls upon them while their parents are away. But it may become very apparent that some nannies are simply not cut out to take on that responsibility, as this story from Sin Chew Daily goes to show.

Occurring in Taichung City, Taiwan, the incident centers around a 1-year-old girl who had been rushed to hospital after her family had noticed that the girl had sustained injuries. Upon inspection by doctors, the baby was said to have sustained intracranial hemorrhaging, a fractured arm, and noticeable bruising on her head, chest and back.

Despite suspecting that it was their 25-year-old nanny, Ms Guo, who had inflicted the injuries, all the nanny said in response to the queries was that she had been helping the little girl bathe before the small child became unconscious. It is said that Ms Guo had been taking care of the baby girl since May of this year, and would stay with her for up to 24 hours during the work week.

Apparently what had happened was that when she was changing the baby girl’s diaper, Ms Guo got annoyed at her for not sliding her legs through into the diaper properly. She was also frustrated that both the baby girl was crying, and wound up picking her up from her crib by her armpits to shake her violently.

But when the baby girl didn’t stop crying, she allegedly pulled her from her crib, causing the infant to fall onto the floor, fracturing her arm.

Doctors who were attending to the baby girl’s injuries say that despite being saved from the brink of death, the chances of her survival are slim. Despite removing a blood clot from the baby’s brain, they said that she would likely suffer from irreversible brain damage as a result of her injuries.

During the court trial over the case, the nanny even tried to ask for a lighter sentence, or be allowed to post bail because the whole incident had been an ‘accident’ that she didn’t intend for to happen.

The mother, who was hysterical in court, said “My daughter is barely clinging to life because of you, and you have the nerve to ask for a lighter sentence?”

Due to her extensive injuries, the poor little girl can only eat through a nasogastric tube and has to depend on medication to survive for the rest of her life. Her mother will also have to bear considerable medical costs, on top of her already mounting legal fees.

We hope that the nanny will face rightful justice for what she has done to the baby girl.
