The human body, while being miraculous and able to perform amazing feats, sometimes just ends up doing things that are straight up ODD. That said, sometimes it can be extremely gross and morbid as well, with a touch of disturbing, like the man who found a family of cockroaches living in his ear.

Speaking of another such case, a 60-year-old woman had her delivery 15 YEARS TOO LATE! This case happened in Khartoum, Sudan, where a woman who complained of abdominal pains and swelling went for an ultrasound and the CT scan that resulted showed an abdominal pregnancy with a baby that has been classified dead. Warning ahead! The pictures below may be too graphic for certain people.

Due to the age of the patient and the size of the mass, the doctors first said that there was a minimal chance for the woman to survive the procedure to remove it. However, upon further inspection, they found that the baby was surrounded by a thick mass and there no cell carcinoma (cancer) or fibrosis(thickening or scarring of the connective tissues) related to the baby.

The woman eventually went through the procedure to remove the baby, which appears to have calcified from its 15-year-long wait to exit the woman’s body. This particular phenomenon is known as a lithopedion, or ‘ectopic calcified pregnancy’, and occurs when a fetus dies during an abdominal pregnancy but is too large for the body to reabsorb. Throughout 400 years of medical history, only 300 such cases have been observed!

Thankfully, this woman was able to be saved. Let this be a lesson to the rest of us. If you have a doubt or are experiencing some abnormal pain, please always remember to consult a medical doctor first.
