Having classes online is a norm nowadays for students of all ages and institutions.
Unfortunately, studying at home isn’t always the best experience. An 18-year-old student who would like to remain anonymous recently shared her studying at home experience on Twitter and it was not a pleasant one.
18-year-old Alice (name altered for privacy purposes) who had just started culinary classes after getting her SPM results was very uncomfortable when a classmate whom she never met before suddenly messaged her privately and harassed her.
At first during the two-hour class, she had her camera turned on but after the classmate named Eric started texting her, she turned it off. Alice did not reply to any of the messages that he sent her but throughout the two hours, he persistently texted her in 20-minute intervals on Zoom private message.
“hi”
“you know my name”
“come to my house I have baby”
“on your camera”
In a tweet that has since gone viral, Alice said that she just wanted to study and learn in peace. Eric’s actions made Alice so uncomfortable in class that she wanted to cry. Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Alice said,
“I felt very uncomfortable and scared during the 2-hour class.”
Thankfully, Eric did not continue harassing Alice. Making someone uncomfortable and endlessly harassing them is certainly not right! If you believe that you are being harassed, be sure to take screenshots and keep proof of evidence to report it to relevant authorities who can help you like lecturers, the administration of an educational institution or the police.
