One of the worst parts of the pandemic is the mundane routine of not exactly having much to do at home, especially for those who are of old age.

Hence why some resort to breaking the rules, so that they have something to do to pass the time.

PDRM Kubang Pasu took to their Facebook page to showcase their arrests of a group of individuals who were found to be gathered and playing mahjong at a house in Taman Resak Changloon, Kedah.

They wrote, “The excitement of a group of individuals, including a 73-year-old senior citizen, who were gambling by playing Mahjong was stifled after police raided a house in Taman Resak Changloon here yesterday afternoon (5 June).”

One of the senior citizens who were present shared that they participated in the gambling session at their friend’s house because they were bored.

“We are bored sitting at home eating and sleeping, eating and sleeping,” they said.

The raid was carried out as a result of spying and intelligence by a police team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Kubang Pasu District Police Headquarters (IPD) together with members from the Changloon police station.

They found out that the house was being used as a gambling base since the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) 3.0, due to the strategic location that it is surrounded by zinc fences and stone walls that obscure the authorities.

14 people were detained during the raid, including 10 men and four women, aged 24 to 73 years old, and officers confiscated various items suspected to be used for Mahjong gambling activities and cash, which was used as gambling betting money.

They were detained at the Jitra police lock-up, in accordance with Section 6 (1) of the Common Gaming  Houses Act 1953 and under Regulation 17 (1) PPDPPB 2020 for not complying with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
