A 12-year-old girl from Kulim was found dead, hanging from her top bunk bed at her home on Tuesday (3rd September).
According to Harian Metro, the girl, who was about to sit for her UPSR examinations on 4th September, was found by her eight-year-old sister who told their mother that she was hanging from the bed.
Kulim district police chief Superintendent Mohd Yusuf Shaari said in a statement today that the mother was in the living room while the victim was playing with her 14-year-old brother and younger sister in a room.
“About 15 minutes later, her sister informed their mother that the victim was hanging near the bed,” he said.
When the mother went to the room, she saw that the victim was lying on a mattress after her son had cut the rope that the victim was hanging from.
“Kulim Hospital’s medical personnel called and confirmed the death of the girl,” Mohd Yusuf said.
He said that a shoelace was found on the top bunk of the bed while the victim was on the lower bunk.
According to police, no criminal elements were found on the body of the victim or at the scene.
Meanwhile, the victim’s body has been taken to the Forensic Department in Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, Alor Setar for post-mortem.
Not much information is known about the reason behind the girl’s death – whether she committed suicide or if it was an accident, but the case is classified as sudden death.
