In an update of the Covid-19 situation in Malaysia yesterday, Ministry of Health Director General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has revealed to the media that the youngest patient to be infected with Covid-19 is a 12-day-old infant, according to Free Malaysia Today and the Malaysian Gazette.
According to Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, the infant was born before the implementation of the Movement Control Order, but no further details concerning the infant’s status has been revealed to the press at this time.
Prior to this, a 2-year-old toddler was believed to have been Malaysia’s youngest Covid-19 case. The toddler was scheduled to have undergone a chemotherapy treatment for leukemia at Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital, but the treatment had to be rescheduled as the toddler’s blood test revealed that he was positive with Covid-19.
We hope that the authorities will do all they can in their power to ensure the safety and well-being of the infant, and hope that the family will stay strong during this difficult time.
