Malaysia has won another medal at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games! This time, athlete Ziyad Zolkefli won the silver medal in the men’s shot put event in the F20 (Intellectual Disability) category.
In a post by the Paralympic Council Malaysia, Ziyad bagged the silver medal after landing a stunning throw of 17.18m. This achievement, however, was NOT his 1st Paralympic medal – it was his 3rd.
Ziyad brought home a gold medal during the Rio Paralympics in 2016, a silver medal in the 2024 Paris Paralympics, and a bronze medal in the London Summer 2012 Paralympics. Ziyad, who is also known as “The Smiling Giant” has successfully collected all 3 colours of the medals.
The 1st place was won by Ukrainian athlete Oleksandr Yarovyi with a world record score of 17.61 meters. Maksym Koval, also from Ukraine, won the bronze medal with a score of 16.99 meters.
Ziyad almost bagged himself a gold medal in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games. His results, however, were eventually cancelled allegedly for being late to the call room.
Congratulations to all the Malaysian medallists this year who have brought home their respective medals! We can never thank you enough for your tremendous contribution to the country.
