Looking for a special and romantic getaway with your partner on the weekend of 28 July (Saturday)? Well, you’re in luck, because there’ll be a total lunar eclipse on that day and it’ll be the longest one we’ll ever see!
According to the National Space Agency (ANGKASA), this is the second total lunar eclipse in 2018 as the first one took place in January. The deputy director of ANGKASA said that this phenomenon can be witnessed from the following continents:
- Australia
- Asia (including Malaysia)
- Africa
- Europe
- South America
You can expect to see the amazing lunar eclipse starting from 1.14am to 7.28am while the total lunar eclipse will happen at about 4.20am, which will last for 1 hour and 42 minutes, thus making it the longest in the 21st century!
Wondering where you can catch the best view of this breathtaking phenomenon?
According to ANGKASA, Malaysians can technically watch it from anywhere in the country but the ideal location would be somewhere in the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. However, the visibility of the moon is also at the mercy of local weather.
In conjunction with this rare occasion, ANGKASA has organised an event at the Langkawi National Observatory in Pulau Langkawi where the public can get together to appreciate the beauty of our universe.
The event will start at 10pm and end at 6.30am on 28 July. If for some reason you just can’t see the moon from your location, you can always go to ANGKASA’s Facebook page or YouTube channel as they will live-stream it online.
So guys, get your binoculars and telescopes ready to be blown away by the full moon on 28 July!
