A Sabah assemblyman has suggested that Malaysia take a tougher approach towards curbing the issue of bribery by sentencing those involved to death.

Warisan politician and Bugaya ADUN, Jamil Hamzah, took to his Facebook page to showcase his suggestion during a recent State Legislative Assembly session, in which he used another country’s law as an example.

“A suggestion to get us out of this corruption issue, maybe we can take (a look at) countries that have successfully solved corruption issues. Among them is China, where people involved in bribery cases are shot dead,”

“Everyone is afraid of death, I believe everyone in this hall is also afraid of death. No one is not afraid of death. So, whoever commits bribery, if there is a law that allows for that person to be killed or shot because of bribery issues, that person will be afraid to commit bribery,” he said.

This comes following the recent corruption scandal involving the state administration by Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).
