Taobao Malaysia’s head, Jess Lew, elaborated that the Bahasa Melayu option is part of the platform’s localisation efforts.

She asserted,

“(It) reinforces our platform’s commitment to providing every Malaysian user with a more accessible, seamless and worry-free shopping experience”

Previously, in September of last year, Taobao Malaysia introduced an English interface which featured AI-powered automatic translation and bilingual customer support in English and Chinese.

Taobao Malaysia also displays prices in Ringgit to further simplify Malaysian users’ experience on the platform.

The Taobao app is the second-most downloaded app in Malaysia

The e-commerce platform added that as of 16 April 2025, Taobao is the second-most downloaded app on the iOS shopping app chart in Malaysia.

Taobao Malaysia lauded this achievement, saying that it demonstrated strong local interest and trust in the platform.

Globally, the Taobao app is also the most popular app in France and the second-most downloaded app in the US, Canada and the UK.
