According to Sinar Harian, the incident took place at around 6.45am on Tuesday (22 April), and the man urgently reported the matter to the police.

According to Beaufort District Police Chief Superintendent Wong Leong Meng, the baby girl is believed to be around 36 weeks old.

Wong added that according to the witness, he was awakened from his sleep at around 5.40am when he noticed there was a motorcycle outside of his house.

The witness didn’t notice anything suspicious and even managed to check on the vehicle through the window of his house when the motorcyclist promptly left.

However, when the witness was leaving his house to go to work, he found the box at his doorstep with this message written on it:

“Don’t make this viral. My child is inside this box. Please take care of my child. May you be blessed with sustenance.”

Upon checking, the witness found a baby girl wrapped in a towel inside the box alongside a piece of orange.

The baby girl has since been sent to the paediatric ward of the Beaufort Hospital for treatment. Moreover, the Beaufort District Police Chief revealed that they have requested that a blood sample be obtained for paternity tests.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for abandonment of a child. If convicted, the perpetrator may face up to 7 years in jail or a fine, or both.
