A heartwarming story has recently touched the hearts of netizens after an elderly man was reportedly seen shouting at an LRT station, with bystanders initially unsure of the reason behind his distress.

In a Threads post shared by user @baeanaa (Hana), she recounted the moment she, her boyfriend, and a friend encountered the man, who appeared to be in urgent need of assistance.

Malaysians stepped in to help an uncle with a disability who needed help

According to Hana, many people were hesitant to help the man, allegedly because his shouting was perceived as aggressive. However, she and her companions decided to step in and approach him regardless.

Upon speaking with him, they realised the man was actually a person with a disability (OKU). He was deaf and had been shouting in an attempt to ask for directions to his destination.

Hana shared:

“No one wanted to help him because he was shouting at the LRT station, but little did they know he was actually deaf.

“My best friend and boyfriend stepped in and helped guide him to where he needed to go. He was so lovely! We even used a bit of sign language to communicate.”

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Hana shared how fortunate it was that they were all heading to the same station. Her friend used sign language to let him know they could travel together.

“He was asking for directions, and luckily, we were all going to the same station, MRT Maluri. Even though we don’t know formal sign language, my friend knows the finger-spelling alphabet, so she introduced herself. We even picked up a few signs from him along the way,” Hana explained.

When they arrived at MRT Maluri around 11 PM, the man revealed that he had not eaten all day, having spent many hours travelling on buses before reaching Kuala Lumpur.

“I’m really glad we happened to be on the same train as him because some people just ignored him. This experience reminded me that sometimes people need help in ways we don’t immediately notice. A small act of kindness and empathy can mean the world to someone who is struggling,” she added.

“Poor him. I hope Malaysians become more aware and sensitive to people who really need help. I understand there are many scammers out there, but don’t just say no before finding out what’s really happening. Wishing the uncle good health and ease in everything. And you and your friends are so kind, even to strangers. May you always be blessed, too.”
